Should the Italic variation of a typeface be made after the upright one? Can not the Italic form that is often quite more dynamic and harmonic be the leading characteristic for the design of a typeface? Anton Studer was writing type with a brush and concentrated on the shapes of an italic. Really fascinated by absolutely dynamic forms of the letter shapes he was drawing, he decided to digitize the letter shapes and to try an upright version of his drawn letterforms.The result of that effort is Rekja a transitional typeface with a quite roundy dynamical character which is strong with edges and corners. It is a literally typeface that does not have any other mission than to be tracked by the readers eye but not to be recognized as something else than the visualization of human language. With its dynamical shape and absolutely readable forms which are developed to be well readable in small sizes. Rekja is a typeface that is perfect for all kind of printed matter with longer text passages such as newspapers and books. Rekja means as much as tacking in Icelandic.
